Jan Ting on Civil Rights

Marriage is between a man and a woman

Q: Do you support a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage?

A: I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman, and like all issues of family law, the rules concerning marriage should be decided through the democratic process by the people of each state through their elected state legislators or through referendum. I do not think that family laws should be made by judges, or by the federal government. I believe that all Americans should be able to live their lives with dignity and respect.

Separating religious faith from government is misguided

Jan believes that religious faith is integral to the spirit of liberty that created America. Jan says, "The wisdom of the Founding Fathers has transcended through more than two centuries. Efforts to ignore and separate religious faith from American history and government are anti-historical, misguided, and harmful.

The American flag is sacred

Jan believes that the Bill of Rights creates, and was intended to create, individual rights that belong to each citizen. The symbol of our freedom, the American flag, is sacred. To that end, Jan strongly supports the flag protection amendment to prevent the desecration of our flag.
